Nippon Steel and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy sign MoU

Nippon Steel Corporation (Nippon Steel), Nippon Steel Trading Corporation (Nippon Steel Trading) and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy K.K. (Siemens Gamesa) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 29th, 2024 to jointly study promoting NSCarbolex™ Neutral, a green steel* supplied by Nippon Steel that applies mass balance approach for wind farm turbine towers in Japanese wind farm projects.

Incremental reductions of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions achieved through projects with additionality implemented by steel manufacturing companies is pooled in the organization, and thereafter steel products are supplied with certificates, in accordance with the guideline established by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). Customers who purchase green steels that applies mass balance approach can report the reduction from GHG protocol Scope 3 emissions.
