BlueScope and ResponsibleSteel announced the ResponsibleSteel certified site in Victoria, Australia, BlueScope’s Western Port.
Having a steelmaking site assessed against the criteria within the ResponsibleSteel International Standard highlights the importance of forging a steel sector that is not only focused on decarbonisation but one that is also addressing other critical social and environmental issues such as water resources, pollution, labour rights and the impact of source materials.
Today’s announcement will send a clear and strong message to markets, investors, financiers, and governments that leaders in the industry are moving forward on their decarbonisation goals through strong social and environmental management too.
Commenting on the site certification, BlueScope’s Chief Executive, Australian Steel Products, Tania Archibald, said, “BlueScope is proud to achieve ResponsibleSteel site certification for Western Port. Through the audit process across all 12 sustainability principles, our approach to engaging with our communities, as well as our safety, supply chain, and human resource systems, were highlighted as areas of particularly high performance.”
