U. S. Steel’s Big River Steel, located in Osceola, Arkansas, passed a rigorous set of standards in environmental, social, and governance categories that raise the bar for sustainability across the steel supply chain.
ResponsibleSteel, an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the steel industry, has recently published a comprehensive report titled “Charting Progress to 1.5°C.” The Green Steel World team had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Alli Devlin, Senior Decarbonization Advisor at ResponsibleSteel and the primary author of the report. Dr. Devlin offered invaluable insights into the report’s findings and its implications for the iron and steel industry.
ResponsibleSteel unveiled a landmark report, “Charting Progress to 1.5°C through Certification”. It offers a mapping of the progress needed for the global steel industry to achieve climate commitments.
Arvedi Acciai Speciali Terni (AST) is the latest to obtain core site certification against the ResponsibleSteel International Production Standard. The site in Terni is Italy’s first site to become certified.
The ResponsibleSteel International Production Standard Version 2.1 will play a critical role in driving down global steel emissions and driving up standards across the steel supply chain.
Outokumpu has received the ResponsibleSteel certification for all its manufacturing sites in Europe. ResponsibleSteel has set the global standard for the entire steel industry on sustainable steel sourcing and production.
ResponsibleSteel introduced revisions to Principle 10 of the ResponsibleSteel International Standard including revised Progress Levels to assess steel decarbonisation and encourage increased recycling rates.
SIJ Group has achieved ResponsibleSteel certification and placed Slovenia on the global map of sustainable steel production.
Following a 12-month audit process conducted by AFNOR, Industeel has achieved certification against the ResponsibleSteel International Standard. Part of ArcelorMittal, the cluster of sites manufactures stainless, carbon and low alloy specialty steel heavy plates.
Being one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world, which brings vast increases in energy demand and emissions, India has been taking considerable steps to ensure GHG emissions reduction in various sectors. Seeing as India is the second-largest producer of steel (International Energy Agency), decarbonisation of the Indian steel industry will be key for achieving the country´s net-zero targets. By bringing together key stakeholders from the government, downstream, and the steel industry to discuss the challenges and solutions necessary to achieve an equitable and just transition in India, ResponsibleSteel once again demonstrated the role of its International Standard in impacting policy, finance, and energy transition to accelerate decarbonisation. On 22 July ResponsibleSteel hosted a critical meeting at the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial in Goa, India.
