Saarstahl offers low-carbon steel for the automotive industry

Saarstahl Ascoval, a subsidiary of the Saarstahl/SHS Group obtained the certificate of compliance with IATF 16949:2016: an internationally recognized quality management standard for the entire automotive industry supply chain.

“Saarstahl Ascoval can now supply customers from the automotive industry who stipulate IATF certification as a requirement for their suppliers’ quality management systems. Saarstahl’s automotive customers can benefit from Saarstahl Ascoval’s low-CO2 steel,” explained Daniel Nicolaas van der Hout, Saarstahl Board of Management Member for Sales.

Guillaume Béraud, plant manager at Saarstahl Ascoval, sees further economic benefits for the company from the certification: “It will also strengthen the business location and the local economic region long term.”

Initial certification is valid for one year, after which it can be extended for a further three years by recertification. Saarstahl Ascoval produces quality steel with a carbon-reduced footprint using an electric arc furnace.

In addition, Saarstahl Ascoval successfully passed the first external customer audit in accordance with the German Association of the Automotive Industry’s VDA 6.3 standard with a 97 percent degree of compliance. The customer, a major german automotive supplier, confirmed Saarstahl Ascoval’s high level of quality and thus its approval as a new supplier.
