Outokumpu supports its customers’ green transition with verified environmental data – new stainless steel environmental product declarations published with lower carbon footprint.
In an exclusive interview with Green Steel World, Mr. Juha Erkkilä, VP – Market Strategy & Development at Outokumpu, offered valuable insights into a recent study commissioned by the company, exploring the future of steel in the context of the green transition.
Outokumpu, a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, has published a report on the future of steel – identifying five critical shifts to accelerate the green transition and the needed industrial transformation.
Outokumpu’s target is to further strengthen the company’s innovation strategy and circular economy efforts by producing annually up to 330 tons of metal powder from the company’s own recycled material.
Outokumpu, one of the global leaders in sustainable stainless steel, started to utilize artificial intelligence and safety inspection robots a year ago to improve and digitize the company’s facilities’ health and safety monitoring.
Outokumpu has received the ResponsibleSteel certification for all its manufacturing sites in Europe. ResponsibleSteel has set the global standard for the entire steel industry on sustainable steel sourcing and production.
Outokumpu is partnering with Tetra Pak. Outokumpu Circle Green®, with up to 93% lower carbon footprint than the global industry average, will be used in the production of Tetra Pak’s homogenizers.
Outokumpu is looking for ways to further lower the climate impact across the value chain. As part of this work, an important focus area is to build a strong ecosystem of energy production around its plant in Tornio, Finland.
Outokumpu is deepening its long-term transport collaboration with Finnish shipping company Langh Ship, by taking into use new energy-efficient and low-emission vessels during 2024.
