After Europe, BMW Group secures supply of low-CO2 steel in US and China
In China, the BMW Group signed an agreement with steel manufacturer HBIS Group, which will supply the BMW Group plants in Shenyang with CO2-reduced steel from 2023.
In China, the BMW Group signed an agreement with steel manufacturer HBIS Group, which will supply the BMW Group plants in Shenyang with CO2-reduced steel from 2023.
As part of solidifying a binding agreement, BMW Group and H2 Green Steel have also agreed on technical cooperation.
Under the current procurement plan, CO2 emissions are expected to be reduced by about 230,000 tonnes per year from 2026.

The technology for making green steel is there, and the customers are willing to pay a premium for it.
Up until now, wheels have accounted for about five percent of supply chain CO2 emissions.
The BMW Group continues to reduce CO2 emissions in its supplier network as part of its ambitious ongoing sustainability activities. Steel produced using natural gas or hydrogen and green power, instead of fossil resources like coal, makes a vital contribution to this.
