ArcelorMittal and EDF sign CAPN for French sites

ArcelorMittal and EDF signed a Nuclear Power Production Allocation Contract (CAPN) for ArcelorMittal’s sites in France. This contract follows the letter of intent signed in January 2024 and represents a major step in ArcelorMittal’s energy strategy in France.

Under this agreement, EDF will allocate to ArcelorMittal a share of the capacity of its operating nuclear fleet for a period of 18 years. This contract enables ArcelorMittal to secure a long-term supply of low-carbon, competitive electricity.

The first deliveries began on January 1, 2026.

“We welcome the signing of this nuclear power production allocation contract with EDF. This agreement will enable us to supply our French sites over the long term with low-carbon electricity, a key factor for the future competitiveness of our steel produced in France,” commented Reiner Blaschek, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe, flat products.

“This nuclear power production allocation contract illustrates the commitment of EDF teams over the past several months to provide industrial players with low-carbon, competitive electricity available over the long term. By supporting ArcelorMittal, a key player in steel production, we are contributing to the decarbonization of industry and to energy sovereignty,” added Béatrice Bigois, executive director in charge of the Customers, Services and Territories Division at EDF Group.
