ABB has secured an order from Çolakoğlu Metalurji A.Ş. for an ArcSave® electromagnetic stirrer (EMS) that will be installed on a jumbo 370-tonne capacity EAF, the largest of its kind in the country. The furnace at Çolakoğlu’s steel plant is supplied by Primetals Technologies and will benefit from a revamp courtesy of ABB’s advanced stirring technology, aimed at enhancing the production of various carbon steel products including slabs, hot rolled steel coils, billets and reinforcing steel bars.

The EMS will help the company as it works on meeting its sustainability targets via rapid chemical and thermal homogenization in the furnace.

“This project presents many intricate technical hurdles to overcome,” said Özgür Özsoy, Plant Director at Çolakoğlu Metalurji. “We were highly impressed with how ABB plans to navigate these challenges on the way to seamlessly integrating its ArcSave technology into our operations. This collaboration will not only enhance the efficiency and sustainability of our steelmaking processes but leaves us confident that we have selected a partner that embodies our values of installing innovative solutions for a sustainable future.”
