Protokol launches Digital Product Passport solution

Protokol launched its new venture Provenant, reflecting the company’s continued journey to help organizations meet EU regulatory requirements while becoming leaders in circularity by turning product data into Digital Product Passports (DPPs). Provenant’s mission will be to empower organizations by providing expert Digital Product Passport consulting and a purpose-built, enterprise-grade platform for DPPs aligned with EU regulations.

Increasing regulatory considerations, such as the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), its mandating of DPPs, and rising expectations for the circularity and sustainability of products are prompting businesses to adopt innovative solutions like Digital Product Passports (DPPs) to capture audit-ready, product lifecycle data. As timelines approach for the ESPR, industries from electronics to textiles are mobilizing teams and both piloting and implementing DPPs to prepare.

Available to customers today, Provenant’s purpose-built platform helps organizations prepare for compliance with upcoming EU Digital Product Passport mandates by enabling them to:

  • ‍Create, populate and deploy DPPs at item, batch or model level. Provenant’s cascading data structure eliminates repetitive entry, and detailed audit trails ensure transparency and traceability.
  • ‍Align and validate DPPs against regulatory criteria in real-time with a user-friendly compliance checker, and built-in safeguards that can be used to prevent the publishing of non-compliant or incomplete records.‍
  • Enrich DPPs with post-purchase lifecycle events and sustainability metrics; integrating existing LCA data, product certifications, and include end-of-life options for resale, recycling, and take-back schemes to support circularity. ‍
  • Integrate with existing product management systems to automate data collection from ERP, PIM/PLM and real-time data sync through API, enabling faster deployment and lower disruption.
  • ‍Monitor DPP compliance, usage and analytics with operational oversight, compliance visibility, and circularity insights, enabling regulatory alignment and reporting on lifecycle events.
  • ‍Access expert guidance towards DPP compliance, with consultation, preparation, testing and implementation service to understand impact, costs, and readiness.

Lars Rensing, CEO of Provenant: “Launching Provenant marks the next chapter in what we have been delivering to clients since 2023 under the Protokol brand, enabling them to implement Digital Product Passports that align with EU mandates and achieve their sustainability goals with ease.

As an early innovator in this category, we have continually recognized the potential as well as the complexity of implementation, an area where our team has built a proven track record through unrivalled technical and regulatory expertise. Provenant continues to work with a focused identity: a purpose-built DPP platform, expert guidance, and a connected ecosystem that helps organizations navigate the complexity without getting lost in regulation.”
