Tata Steel Nederland has introduced Zeremis® Recycled, a new steel product with 30% recycled content, designed to help customers meet their short-term circularity goals without compromising on quality. This launch addresses the increasing demand for advanced steels with substantial recycled content, especially in industries like automotive, packaging, and construction.
Tom Eussen, a Board of Management member at Tata Steel Nederland, highlighted the initiative’s importance: “Together with our customers, we can make meaningful strides towards more sustainable production. We are proud to introduce Zeremis Recycled to those who want to enhance circularity and retain the value of steel. By using Zeremis Recycled, customers can claim the recycled content value at the product level.”
Steel has a long life cycle, remaining in use for generations. Eussen noted that maintaining the value of steel through each use is crucial for improved circularity. He emphasized the potential to achieve this with Tata Steel’s current assets and future DRP-EAF combination, ensuring that scrap is returned as high-quality steel.
As part of its Green Steel Plan, Tata Steel Nederland aims to become a green, clean, and circular steel company. This plan includes a 40% CO2 reduction by 2030 and achieving full CO2 neutrality by 2045. Zeremis Recycled is a key part of this strategy, allowing customers to reduce their environmental footprint immediately.
Zeremis Recycled offers 30% recycled content, contributing to a 0.2 tonne CO2 reduction per tonne of steel. This increase in recycled content is verified by independent expert DNV, ensuring compliance with GHG protocol and ISO standards. This product follows the introduction of Zeremis® Carbon Lite, which offers a carbon footprint reduction of up to 90%, and Zeremis® Delivered, which provides lower-emission transportation options for steel orders.
Tata Steel Nederland introduction of Zeremis® Recycled underscores its commitment to sustainability and circularity, offering customers high-quality steel with significant recycled content and supporting the transition to a greener economy.
